The Rub Members:
Billy Hendrix
Vocals
Billy Hendrix is known area wide as a great vocalist, singing professionally with many Texas , and Dallas area bands over the years. Most of his time was spent with the band "Slippery When Wet". Billy made a name for himself , both on and off the stage with "Slippery'' , and after years of earning his living as a singer, he decided to get a day job.......Until......he was recruited to join the likes of the "Rhythm Addicts" , Which now has evolved into "The Rub". Billy makes his home now in Heath, Texas, ...but prefers a little spot in Maui. (don't we all!). BTW...the progression of Billy through decades of bands, via photos, is a ''soon to be added feature'' to the website.........stay tuned!
John "Hollywood" Homesley
Harmonica , Vocals , & Congas
Dallas native , and current Heath, Texas resident , John Homesley, has been with the band since 2006. Intrigued by the sounds of the harmonica as a kid, he started sneaking his daddy's harmonica out of his dresser drawer , and thats when he started to play the harp. The youngest of seven kids, in a musical household, John and his brothers & sisters sang 4 part harmonies , A cappella at weddings and funerals. So playing by ear and hearing harmonies came with the territory. He knocked around the area for a while playing in different bands , before being recruited to play with the Rhythm Addicts. He became the 4th (and last) in a long line of harp players for the band. John found a ''comfortable'' place with the Rhythm Addicts ..... and now THE RUB. Also a songwriter , John has written some of the bands original songs.
Dr. Bill "Bluetooth" Hamilton
Guitar and Vocals
Pampa Texas born, Odessa raised, Texas Tech grad, & enamel driller , Dr. Bill Hamilton is the guitar great that ''THE RUB'' is lucky to have. Bill met Mike Cazabon at a Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flayers concert , and had a conversation about starting a jump blues band. Conversation led to recruiting players, and from that came The Rhythm Addicts ......now known as THE RUB. Bill learned some of his chops along the side of DFW's own Mike Morgan and honed them with the Brief Case Blues Band. Bill has devoted his full time to playing the blues and traveling the world with his lovely wife . Bill has written some of the bands original songs as well.
Bob "Shuffle King" Carlson
Drums
Bob played his first professional gig in 1963, at the tender age of 14, at a rhythm & blues club called the Red Jacket on Maple Ave in Dallas, Texas. Being self taught and not being able to count past four he concentrated on laying down a solid beat that the other members of the band could always come home to after getting a little to far-out on their solos. The dancer always liked that because they could slide into a groove on the dance floor that was always in the pocket. After 20 years of playing Bob hung up his sticks. In 2004 Bob picked up the sticks again to help start The Rhythm Addicts and it was love a the first beat. Now as a art of The Rub, Bob continues to lay down the rhythms that keep us on track.
Rob "Buttermilk" Owen
Keyboards
Born just outside New Orleans, Rob studied composition at SMU and performed in the jazz band there under the direction of legendary drummer Paul Guerrero. As a classically trained composer Rob paid his musical dues in 23 states and 5 countries, touring with Mickey Gilley, opening for Little Feat, The Turtles and the Beach Boys, and jamming with Stevie Ray Vaughn. Rob also played keyboards for Dash Riprock and the Dragons and the Neon Globoys.
In June, 2005, Rob set up Green leaf Music and settled into the studio to compose, score, and arrange any project that needed the power of music to make itʼs point.
After 40 years as a professional musician, Rob brings his versatility, creativity to The Rub.
John ''J.R,'' Robinson
Bass Guitar
Newest to the band is John Robinson. J.R. has brought a smooth , yet clean and punchy bass-line to the Rub. The longtime Dallas area player, also comes from a long line of musicians as well . A welcome , and great asset to The Rub . J.R. is widely known as a great bassist, playing fill - ins & studio gigs all over the Metroplex. A gig fill-in brought him to The Rub, and we are more than glad to have him , now as a permanent member . A strong work ethic , and a great sense of timing, help to add missing pieces to The Rub.
